Abundance of gas and oil in Persian Gulf with its main reserves in South Pars area has caused the management to earmark the area for a number of petrochemical com�plexes.
One of the first such projects in Assalouyeh area was 9th Olefin Project. The project has special importance as it uses Ethane Gas as feedstock instead of liquid feed and as such, its added value is more significant.
A strategic plan was drawn up and it was decided to hand over the projects to third party groups and institutions as far as possible. Therefore, with the aim to find a partner to establish a joint venture, the project was awarded to Pars Petrochemical Company and it started negotiations for fi�nancing immediately. Sasol Limited a company of South Africa through its sub�sidiary, Sasol Polymer Germany showed interest to join the project. In 2002, a letter of understanding was signed between the two companies and on April 2002 the Olefin unit, the Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and Medium & High Density
